Simply Day III

pinks and purples

Still working very simple on these small palette knife paintings.  They are so much fun to do!  I have painted this marshview many times but I never seem to grow tired of it.  There is always something more to see.

This palette knife painting is a view of the tip of North Beach on Tybee Island, GA.   I have been working on simplifying my landscapes ......wish it would cross over into the rest of my life!

Early Signs of Fall.......

early fall

As much as I want to hold on to summer....it's slowly slipping away. Golds and reds are invading the green landscape with each passing moment.

Nothing says summer in the country like a field of freshly baled hay!

In for the night

This painting is from a photo I took on my last day at the beach this summer. A storm had passed through earlier that afternoon and left a calm, clear evening that was almost cool.  You could almost feel summer slipping away with the breeze.

A little past prime...

big old okra
6" x 6" oil on panel

I was picking okra, or what's left of it, this morning in my garden.  Okra seems to grow at least three inches every night.  One day a flower, the next a lovely little green okra ready to eat.  No matter how often I pick, I always miss one.  I will notice a stalk on the ground and sure enough, a gigantic okra at the end of it!  Although inedible......it was such a lovely shade of green, I decided to paint it. A little past it's prime but still valuable!

Can you guess what this is?

a bit of spanish moss
6' x 6" oil on panel
©2011 DottieLeatherwood

What is it?  It's one of the things I miss about my hometown.  Live oak trees dripping in dreamy spanish moss. Actually here it's just a branch.  Growing up I heard my grandmother complain all the time about spanish moss smothering her trees. Sometimes it does cover the tree so completely the branches and leaves are barely visible.  But it is so very beautiful.  A little mysterious and a bit spooky at times. I like to think of it as heavenly though.....
