My inner 12-year old.....

untitled sketch

Today was a "mandatory day-off"....notice I did not say vacation day. We are having some work done on our house and I had to sit here all day and watch it progress toward completion.  No studio time for me.  Why is it I can think of a thousand paintings I want to complete when I can't get to an easel but when I'm at the easel with the whole day in front of me I draw a blank ...literally and figuratively?  So today I made lists, more lists, did some computer chores and sketched out compositions for paintings.  Then I sat here and drew horses ...like I did when I was 12.  Fairly productive I guess....although I would rather have been painting!

A whole lotta croaking going on....

pond frog
5"x7" oil on panel

Been a lot of rooster and chicken paintings clucking their way through my studio lately.  So I decided to throw you a curve ball and paint a frog.  I have a tiny little pond by my studio (that I dug myself, thank you very much!) and it is loaded with frogs right now. Bright green ones. I'm not sure what my one remaining fish thinks about all the croaking going on but I'd like to think he's happy to have the company.  If you'd like to give this little frog a home, he's up for auction on Daily Paintworks ...here's the link:   http://www.dailypaintworks.com/buy/auction/49699 .

Another plug for Art for Autism....

Yesterday I posted about the Art for Autism Event in Charlotte, NC on April 26th - 28th.  So many of us are touched personally or have friends or family that deal with autism.  My sweet nephew Daniel, has Asperger's Disease which is a milder form of autism with it's own set of challenges.  He has taught my  family and my own children so much about love, perseverance and finding joy in the small things of life.  I was so happy to be asked to participate in this fundraiser and to be able to give back in a small way to help children like Daniel.   Here are a few of my paintings that will be at the show:

"high stepping"  20"x20" oil on canvas
"out of the darkness" 16"x20" oil on canvas
"pretty girls"  24"x36" oil on canvas
"cool morning light"  14"x11" oil on canvas
"tied up"   20"x20" oil on canvas

Please come and support this event if you are able and if you aren't in the Charlotte area.... support an autism event in your part of the world!

orange sky marsh study .... SOLD

orange sky marsh study
6" x 8" oil on panel

SOLD

Here's a little study of a sunset over the marsh.  I wanted to capture both the intensity of the fiery orange in the sky and the glowing silver-blue tidal creek.  I softened my normally bold brushstrokes here to get more of a dreamy, hazy feel.   I'd like to try this on a much larger canvas using my normal brushstrokes and still try to capture that dreamy feeling.  This little study is up for auction on Daily Paintworks if you are interested!
